Mumbai Rains Bring Respite After Dry Spell, Light to Moderate Showers Expected Today

Mumbai | August 7, 2025: Mumbai experienced light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the city early Thursday morning, bringing much-needed relief after a week-long dry spell. The showers, which began overnight in some areas, are expected to continue intermittently throughout the day.
According to a Nowcast warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 7:00 am, light spells of rain are likely in isolated areas of Mumbai and Thane over the next few hours. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall across several parts of the city and its surrounding regions, despite the weakening monsoon trend seen so far in August.
Areas such as Gateway of India, Marine Drive, and Colaba in South Mumbai may receive sporadic showers. Central localities including Dadar, Sion, and Kurla, along with Western suburbs like Bandra, Khar, and Andheri, are expected to see scattered rain. The Eastern suburbs, including Ghatkopar, Chembur, and Bhandup, are also likely to be affected.
In the adjoining regions, light to moderate rain is predicted in Navi Mumbai (Vashi, Nerul, Ghansoli) and Thane. Coastal parts of Palghar may experience slightly heavier showers by evening.
Despite the rainfall, Mumbai's notorious humidity continues to prevail, with levels ranging between 75% and 85%, making the weather muggy and uncomfortable, especially during rain-free hours in the afternoon. The sky is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with occasional breaks.
While no red or orange alerts have been issued, a yellow alert remains in place for some parts of the Konkan region, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated areas. No significant waterlogging incidents have been reported so far, and suburban train services are running smoothly, though with minor delays.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring a potential weather system forming over the Bay of Bengal after August 11–12, which could bring renewed rainfall to Maharashtra, including Mumbai, in the following weeks.
Residents are advised to stay updated with IMD advisories and plan travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience due to intermittent rains and possible traffic disruptions.
