Mumbai Resident Calls Out BMC Over Illegal Nurseries & Garbage Pile-Up in Mahim

Mumbai: A local resident has raised concerns over an illegal plant nursery and garbage accumulation at the junction of Senapati Bapat Marg and Bhagoji Keer Marg in Mahim. The issue was highlighted on X by the account @mumbaimatterz, accusing the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) of selling off public spaces under the guise of the Mumbai Beautification initiative.
Garbage Pile-Up After Bin Removal
The resident alleged that BMC cleared a community garbage bin from the footpath to make way for a nursery, leading to waste piling up on the roadside. The post included a video showing the deteriorating condition of the area.
Following public outrage, BMC acknowledged the complaint and later shared images of the cleaned-up roads, stating that the issue had been addressed.
Netizens React
The post sparked debates, with many users claiming that illegal nurseries have surged across Mumbai, Thane, Vasai, Virar, and Bhayander, occupying public spaces unlawfully. Some demanded stricter investigations into nursery ownership, while others saw the issue as an opportunity to promote waste management startups in the city.
