The incident took place on February 1 at around 3:00 PM, when Head Constables Raosaheb Majre and Sanjay Salunkhe, along with MSF officers Sadashiv Panchage and Paras Rathod, were on duty at Nalasopara station. During a routine inspection, they noticed a red trolley bag lying unattended on the platform. The officers immediately took charge of the situation, and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Vinod Kumar Sharma brought the bag to the station master's office. Upon inspection, in the presence of Station Master Sharad Kelshikar, valuable gold ornaments were found inside the bag.
Meanwhile, a woman, identified as Archana Arjun Bujad, arrived at Nalasopara station with her daughter, visibly distressed and searching for her lost bag. She explained that she had been traveling from Vasai to Dahanu Road and that in the hustle of passengers at Nalasopara station, her trolley bag had accidentally fallen onto the platform as the train departed. Realizing her loss, she quickly got off at Virar station and rushed back to Nalasopara to locate her belongings.
Upon verification, it was confirmed that the bag contained gold jewelry, including 30 grams of bangles, two mangalsutras weighing 25 grams each, a 5-gram gold ring, along with sarees and other clothes. The total weight of the gold ornaments was approximately 85 grams, valued at an estimated ₹6.80 lakh.
After completing the necessary verification procedures, the RPF team safely returned the bag to Archana Arjun Bujad. Overcome with gratitude, she expressed heartfelt thanks to the RPF for their quick and honest efforts. “I was extremely panicked when I lost my bag, but I am truly thankful to the RPF team for their quick response and honesty in returning my valuables,” she said after receiving her bag.
A senior official of Western Railway stated that the recovery and return of the lost belongings were carried out under Operation Amanat, an initiative by Western Railway’s RPF aimed at reuniting passengers with their misplaced valuables.
This remarkable act of integrity serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the RPF to ensure the safety and security of passengers and their belongings.
