National Helpline for Senior Citizens – 14567: A Lifeline for India’s Elderly

New Delhi August 5, 2025 : In a significant step towards ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of India’s elderly population, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, has launched a dedicated National Helpline for Senior Citizens – 14567. This toll-free service is designed to provide free information, guidance, emotional support, and field intervention to senior citizens across the country.

Available in multiple Indian languages, the helpline operates 24x7, ensuring that elderly citizens can access help whenever they need it. Whether facing emotional distress, abuse, neglect, or simply seeking information on welfare schemes and services, senior citizens now have a reliable, compassionate resource just a call away.

The helpline is staffed by trained professionals who not only listen with empathy but also take swift action in serious cases, including coordinating with local authorities, NGOs, and support organizations to ensure on-ground assistance when required.

“14567 is more than just a number – it’s a symbol of care, respect, and commitment towards our senior citizens,” said a spokesperson from the Ministry. “Our elders deserve to live with dignity and without fear. This helpline is our way of assuring them that the nation stands by them.”

Citizens are being urged to spread awareness about this vital service so that every elderly person, especially those in vulnerable or isolated conditions, can benefit. Families, neighbors, community groups, and social workers are encouraged to inform and assist senior citizens in using the helpline whenever necessary.
