Kathmandu:The death toll from floods and landslides in Nepal has surpassed 200. More than four dozen people are still missing. Efforts to retrieve bodies trapped in landslides are ongoing. As floodwaters recede, the government has begun arrangements for food and water for the affected people.

According to information provided by the Home Ministry, the death toll from floods and landslides has increased to 204. Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari stated that as of 11 AM on Monday, data from across the country shows that 204 bodies have been recovered. The spokesperson also mentioned that reports of four dozen people being missing have been received.

Data received from the Disaster Management Branch of the Home Ministry indicates that 49 people are reported missing so far. Spokesperson Tiwari said that around 200 injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in hospitals. Approximately four thousand people trapped in floods and landslides have been rescued.

The spokesperson noted that the government's priority is to arrange temporary housing for the displaced individuals. He stated that a decision will be made in the cabinet meeting, which will be held as soon as Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli arrives in Nepal, to provide the first phase of temporary housing for the affected individuals.

Additionally, highway operations are also a priority for the government. After three days, the installation of the idol (Ghatasthapana) will commence, and approximately 1 million people are expected to travel from Kathmandu to their homes by road. Currently, all highways leading out of Kathmandu are closed. The government's priority is to reopen them so that people can travel to their villages and other cities for Dashain.
