New Traffic Regulations to Limit Heavy Vehicle Entry in Mira Bhayandar During Peak Hours

Feb 12, 2025 | Mira Bhayandar – In a move aimed at easing traffic congestion, the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police commissionerate has issued a new circular prohibiting heavy vehicles, including private inter-state and intra-state passenger buses, from entering Mira Bhayandar during peak hours. The new regulation, effective immediately, applies to vehicles traveling on the Western Express Highway, particularly near the newly constructed Versova Bridge, also known as the Bhayandar or Fountain Bridge.

The restriction will be in effect from 7:45 AM to 11:15 AM each day, targeting the busiest traffic periods. Heavy vehicles approaching the Versova Bridge, which falls under Mira Bhayandar’s jurisdiction, will no longer be permitted to cross the Versova Police Chowky. This includes passenger buses coming from Gujarat and North India on their way to Mumbai.

The decision has been prompted by frequent slow traffic movement on the Versova Bridge, often caused by vehicles stopping inappropriately for selfies. In addition to limiting heavy vehicle entry, the MBVV has also designated the new bridge as a no-parking zone, aiming to ensure smoother and more efficient traffic flow.

Local authorities hope the move will provide relief to daily commuters and reduce the traffic strain on this crucial route. With a significant increase in traffic volume in recent years, especially during peak hours, these steps are seen as necessary to maintain road safety and minimize delays.

For the time being, heavy vehicles are advised to plan their routes accordingly and avoid the affected stretch during the restricted hours.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed about further updates and follow all traffic advisories issued by the MBVV police.
