PM Modi Embarks on Two-Day Tour to Launch ₹70,000 Crore Development Projects Across Eastern India

New Delhi/Regional Bureaus, May 29 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a two-day whirlwind tour across four eastern states — Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh — to inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stone for infrastructure and development projects collectively worth over ₹70,000 crore. The visit, which began today, underscores the Centre’s thrust on inclusive development and the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
In a social media post ahead of the tour, PM Modi stated, "Over the next two days, I will be attending programmes in Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. The development works that will commence over the next two days will bring innumerable benefits for people and strengthen our resolve to build a Viksit Bharat."
On Wednesday afternoon, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a ₹1,010 crore City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. The project aims to deliver Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to over 2.5 lakh households and more than 100 commercial and industrial users. Additionally, it will establish around 19 CNG stations, promising employment opportunities and environmental benefits.
Addressing a public meeting in Alipurduar, PM Modi remarked, "It is always a delight to be among the people of West Bengal. The people are tired of the corruption and poor administration of the TMC, and they have shown strong support for NDA schemes over the last decade."
The Prime Minister also unveiled the newly constructed terminal at Patna Airport, built at an estimated cost of ₹1,200 crore. The terminal is equipped to handle up to one crore passengers annually, significantly easing travel for residents of the region.
Further enhancing Bihar’s connectivity, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for a new civil enclave at Bihta Airport, a ₹1,410 crore project aimed at catering to the expanding educational and residential hubs around Patna.
"Tomorrow, 29th May is a landmark day for the people of Bihar and Patna in particular," PM Modi said. "These initiatives will lead to better connectivity and will boost commerce."
The Prime Minister is expected to visit Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh on the second day of his tour, where he will continue unveiling infrastructure and development projects in line with the central government’s vision for regional growth and national transformation.
The two-day tour not only emphasizes the government’s development agenda but also comes at a crucial time with political undertones, especially in states like West Bengal where governance and corruption have become focal points in the ongoing political discourse.
