New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Quad Leaders Summit organized by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. During this event, a grant of $7.5 million was announced for cancer testing, screening, and diagnosis in the Indo-Pacific region. On this occasion, the Prime Minister deeply appreciated President Biden's thoughtful initiative aimed at the prevention, detection, and treatment of cervical cancer. He stated that this program would significantly advance affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare for people in Indo-Pacific countries. He mentioned that India is also running a large-scale cervical cancer screening program. Discussing India’s health security efforts, he noted that the country has developed a vaccine for cervical cancer and is working on AI-based treatment protocols for the disease. As part of India's contribution to the Cancer Moonshot initiative, the Prime Minister also announced that India will provide assistance for radiotherapy treatment and capacity building for cancer prevention in the Indo-Pacific. He also pointed out that the supply of 40 million vaccine doses from India under the GAVI and Quad programs will benefit Indo-Pacific countries. "When the Quad works, it is not just for nations; it is for people, and it embodies its truly human-centered approach," the Prime Minister said. Through its $10 million contribution to the WHO's global initiative on digital health, India will also provide technical assistance for cancer detection, care, and sustainability to interested countries in the Indo-Pacific region. Through the Cancer Moonshot initiative, the Quad leaders have committed to working together to eliminate the gaps in the cervical cancer care and treatment ecosystem in the Indo-Pacific countries.
