Railways to Add 2 Sleeper Coaches to LTT–Secunderabad Duronto Express Permanently

Mumbai/Secunderabad | September 9, 2025: In a move set to enhance passenger capacity and improve accessibility to budget travel options, Indian Railways has announced the permanent addition of two Sleeper Class coaches to the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus–Secunderabad Duronto Express (Train No. 12219/12220). The revised composition will be effective from September 16 and 17, 2025, depending on the train's direction of travel.
With this modification, the train's overall composition will increase from 18 to 20 coaches, accommodating more passengers on the high-demand route that connects two major cities—Mumbai and Hyderabad—via Secunderabad. Train number 12220, which operates from Secunderabad to LTT, will run with the new composition starting September 16, while train number 12219, running from LTT to Secunderabad, will implement the change from September 17 onwards.
Earlier, the Duronto Express was equipped with one First AC coach, four AC 2-Tier coaches, ten AC 3-Tier coaches, a Second Seating and Luggage-cum-Guard’s Brake Van, a Generator Car, and a Pantry Car—totalling 18 coaches. With the latest addition, two Sleeper Class coaches will now be included, increasing the total number of coaches to 20.
The move comes in response to growing demand from passengers, particularly those seeking more affordable travel options on long-distance trains. It marks a significant step in balancing comfort with capacity, especially for budget-conscious travellers.
Booking for the newly introduced Sleeper Class berths on Train No. 12219 will open from September 10, 2025, and will be available at all computerized reservation centres as well as through the official IRCTC website at www.irctc.co.in.
For detailed information on train schedules, halts, and timings, passengers are advised to visit www.enquiry.indianrail.gov.in or download the NTES (National Train Enquiry System) App.
The addition of sleeper coaches is expected to provide a considerable relief to waitlisted passengers and those preferring economical long-distance rail travel. Indian Railways continues to take such initiatives to better serve passenger needs and enhance travel comfort on popular routes.
