Rajasthan Royals Crash Out of IPL 2025 Playoffs After Crushing Defeat to Mumbai Indians

Jaipur : Rajasthan Royals’ playoff hopes were dealt a fatal blow on Thursday as they succumbed to a humiliating 100-run defeat against the resurgent Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. With this result, the Royals have officially bowed out of the IPL 2025 playoff race, joining Chennai Super Kings in early elimination.
Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians produced a clinical batting display to post a daunting total of 217/2 in their 20 overs. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton laid the foundation with composed half-centuries before Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya unleashed a late onslaught. The pair stitched together an unbeaten 94-run stand, both remaining not out on 48, as Rajasthan’s bowling attack failed to contain the flow of runs.
The Royals’ chase began on a disastrous note, with Deepak Chahar removing Vaibhav Suryavanshi for a duck in the opening over. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah then ran riot, claiming crucial wickets at regular intervals. Bumrah’s double strike — removing Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer — effectively shattered any hopes of a comeback.
Despite a brief show of resistance from Jofra Archer, who top-scored with 30, the Royals were bundled out for 117, falling short by a massive margin of 100 runs. The defeat also dealt a blow to their net run rate, further cementing their exit from the top-four contention.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ sixth consecutive win has not only kept them firmly in the playoff race but also boosted their net run rate significantly — a key factor as the tournament nears its business end.
With the Royals now out of contention, all eyes turn to the final fixtures as the battle for playoff spots heats up.
