RPF Foils Arms Smuggling Bid on Tripura Sundari Express; Eight Pistols, Magazines Seized
New Delhi, May 8, 2025: In a major breakthrough amid heightened national security concerns, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) averted a potential threat to public safety by intercepting an illegal arms consignment aboard the Tripura Sundari Express. The incident occurred on Thursday during a routine escort duty onboard Train No. 14620 UP Tripura Sundari Express, running from Badarpur to Agartala.
Acting under enhanced security directives, the vigilant RPF escort team, attached to the Agartala RPF Post, discovered eight handmade iron pistols and sixteen magazines hidden in two abandoned pithu bags. The suspicious bags were found lying unattended on the upper berth of a general coach.
Upon inspection, the weapons were found wrapped carefully in brown cello tape, suggesting a deliberate and covert attempt at arms smuggling. The RPF team acted swiftly and secured the recovered cache before transporting it safely to the RPF Post in Agartala.
The case has since been handed over to the Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) Agartala for further investigation. Authorities are currently working to identify those responsible for placing the weapons on board.
This operation has been widely lauded as a critical success in maintaining the safety of railway passengers and highlights the indispensable role of RPF personnel in thwarting criminal activities on trains.
