Special Train Evacuates Passengers After Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Collision in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: A special train carrying stranded passengers of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express departed from Dr MGR Chennai Central Railway station at 4:45 am after a horrific accident that took place in Kavaripettai, Tiruvallur district. The passengers were provided with food and water, as confirmed by railway officials. The accident occurred when Train No. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Express was speeding at 75 kmph and collided with the rear of a goods train that was standing on the same line. This led to a parcel van from the goods train bursting into flames, causing 13 coaches to derail. However, over 95 percent of the passengers were successfully evacuated and there were no reports of any casualties or serious injuries. Newly appointed Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the affected passengers late at night, after they were shifted to a nearby hospital. Southern Railways diverted several long distance trains including important ones like SMVT Bengaluru and trains bound for Kamakhya and Guwahati. The Vijayawada Jan Shatabdi Express was also cancelled on both arrival and departure routes. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his shock over the accident and directed Minister for Minorities SM Nasar and other officials to reach the site immediately. The CM also wrote on X that he had ordered government officials including the District Collector to go to the accident site as soon as he received information about it.
