Tragic Road Accidents in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai: Two Dead, Several Injured in Separate Incidents

Navi Mumbai / Mumbai, July 12: In two separate tragic road accidents this week, a 60-year-old man lost his life and his grandson was injured in Navi Mumbai, while a 45-year-old man died and a teenager sustained serious injuries in a mishap on Mumbai’s Eastern Express Highway.
In the first incident, a 60-year-old man, identified as Chandrakant Khakham, died, and his 7-year-old grandson, Dhruv Singh, was injured after a speeding and allegedly drunk motorcyclist rammed into their two-wheeler on Suncity Road in Vashi around 5 PM on Wednesday.
Khakham was reportedly taking his grandson to a nearby garden when the collision occurred. The impact seriously injured all four individuals involved, including the motorcyclist and his pillion rider. All victims were rushed to Balaji Hospital in Vasai, where Khakham was declared dead. Dhruv sustained a leg injury and is currently receiving treatment.
The Vashi police have registered a case against the biker for rash and negligent driving, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol. Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a 45-year-old man lost his life, and an 18-year-old was seriously injured in the early hours of July 6, when their motorcycle crashed into a stationary container truck on the Eastern Express Highway near Vikhroli East.
The deceased has been identified as Bharat Mangilal Jain (also known as Kothari), while the injured pillion rider, Jay Shankar Jain (Kothari), is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chembur.
According to Vikhroli Police, the accident took place around 12:10 AM near the Narayan Bodhe Bridge. The container truck had reportedly been parked dangerously on an incline without proper warning signs or safety measures. Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Narendra Govind Magar, who was on patrol duty, arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted by the control room.
Authorities have registered a case against the truck driver under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act for gross negligence.
Both incidents have reignited public concern over increasing road accidents due to reckless driving and failure to follow traffic safety norms. Police have urged citizens and commercial vehicle operators to strictly adhere to road safety guidelines to prevent such tragedies.
