Trump's Strong Stance on Illegal Immigration and Trade: A Push to 'Put America First'

Washington D.C.: In a bold move, former US President Donald Trump stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "will do what's right" when it comes to addressing illegal immigration, particularly focusing on undocumented Indians living in the United States. This comment follows the revelation that India and the US identified approximately 18,000 Indians who are currently residing in the US illegally. Trump, who previously launched a crackdown on illegal immigration, expressed his belief that deportation programs would aid in curbing unlawful entries.
During a phone call with Modi, Trump further reaffirmed his commitment to deporting undocumented individuals, asserting that it is critical to uphold legal immigration channels while combatting illegal migration. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar echoed this stance, stressing that India welcomes the legitimate return of its undocumented citizens, as long as they are verifiably Indian nationals. Jaishankar also remarked that the US must ensure thorough verification for the returnees.
Meanwhile, Trump also lashed out at nations he called "high-tariff" countries, naming China, India, and Brazil as major culprits. He warned that the US would impose tariffs on such nations, claiming their trade practices harm American interests. Asserting that it's time to "put America first," Trump emphasized that the US should begin taxing foreign nations to "enrich our citizens" rather than burdening its own.
The political rhetoric marks a significant shift in US immigration and trade policy, highlighting strained global dynamics and intense focus on national interests.
