Water Crisis Sparks Political Fire: Kejriwal Accuses Haryana BJP of 'Poisoning' Yamuna Ahead of Delhi Elections

New Delhi: In a dramatic clash ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has sparked controversy by accusing the BJP-ruled Haryana government of deliberately polluting the Yamuna with “poison” to disrupt Delhi’s water supply. Kejriwal, citing unusually high levels of ammonia in the Yamuna water, claimed the BJP’s actions were politically motivated to hurt Delhi’s population and harm his political image.

The Haryana government, led by Nayab Singh Saini, is planning a defamation lawsuit against Kejriwal, while also filing a complaint with the Election Commission. The BJP party swiftly condemned the accusations, with Haryana CM Saini demanding an apology from Kejriwal for his "false claims."

Kejriwal, undeterred, lashed out at the BJP, declaring he wouldn’t allow Delhiites to “drink poisonous water” and challenged the party to sue him. The heated remarks were accompanied by a fierce call not to politicize water issues, an appeal resonating throughout the capital’s ongoing election campaign, which touches on key issues like water and pollution management.

Amid escalating tensions, the Election Commission has instructed Haryana authorities to present a factual report by January 28 regarding ammonia levels in the river water, an issue that has become a focal point of Delhi's pre-election discourse.

As Delhi heads to the polls on February 5, water issues like these are playing a critical role in the fiery political battles between Kejriwal’s AAP and the BJP. The results of this standoff might influence not just water policies but also voter sentiments during the upcoming polls.
