Two Drug Addicts Arrested for Gold Chain Snatching in Powai

Mumbai – In a swift operation, the Powai Police arrested two men for snatching gold chains from women in two separate incidents on April 5. The accused, identified as Papu Mishra alias Rider and Sunil Mahto, are reportedly drug addicts and confessed to committing the crimes to support their addiction.
The first incident took place near the IIT Market Gate, and the second near Hiranandani Gardens. In both cases, the victims were walking when the duo, riding a KTM200 sports bike, approached them and forcibly snatched gold chains from around their necks before fleeing the scene.
Following the crimes, the police launched an intensive investigation and reviewed more than 100 CCTV footage clips from surrounding areas. Their efforts paid off when they identified the suspects traveling towards Behram Baug in Oshiwara. Based on this lead, a trap was laid, and both accused were apprehended.
The police recovered nearly 30 grams of stolen gold ornaments and the KTM200 motorcycle used in the thefts. It was later revealed that the bike had also been reported stolen approximately six months ago.
Both men are residents of Four Bungalows in Andheri and have a history of drug abuse, which, according to police officials, was the primary motive behind the thefts.
Further investigations are underway to determine if the duo is connected to other similar cases in the city.
