Vikrant Massey Opens Up About Interfaith Family Life and Upcoming Film 'The Sabarmati Report'

Mumbai, November 14 : Actor Vikrant Massey, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film The Sabarmati Report, shared insights into his unique interfaith upbringing and how his family celebrates a blend of cultural and religious festivals. On Shubhankar Mishra's podcast, Vikrant opened up about his Christian father, Sikh mother, Muslim brother, and Hindu wife, reflecting the diversity that shapes their lives.
Vikrant’s parents, who come from different religious backgrounds, have set an example of secularism and mutual respect. His father is Christian, while his mother is Sikh, and his brother Moeen converted to Islam. Despite these differences, Vikrant emphasized that his family celebrates all major festivals together. “My brother does Laxmi puja on Diwali, which is his personal choice, but we celebrate Diwali and Holi together. On Eid, we celebrate at his place with biryani. That’s the spirit of our family,” Vikrant said, highlighting the harmonious coexistence of faiths within his household.
The actor also spoke about the personal religious practices within his family. His Christian father has visited the Vaishno Devi temple six times, continues to attend church services regularly, and embraces a multifaceted spiritual life. “My father is a Christian, but he goes to church twice a week. He also visits Vaishno Devi. This is what India has always been like. People are free to follow their beliefs. There’s a temple in my house, and my son’s name is Vardaan. This is the fabric of our country,” he added, underscoring his belief in India's inclusive cultural identity.
Vikrant's thoughts on secularism come at a time when the actor is preparing for the release of The Sabarmati Report, a film based on the 2002 Godhra riots. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film chronicles the tragic events surrounding the burning of the Sabarmati Express at Godhra and the aftermath. Vikrant, who plays a journalist investigating the incident, revealed that the film has generated a certain amount of controversy. He shared that he has received threats ahead of the film’s release but expressed confidence in the importance of telling the story.
"Yes, I have been receiving threats, but as I said, we are artists, and we tell stories. This film is purely based on facts. It’s something we are dealing with as a team, and we will handle it the way it needs to be handled," Vikrant remarked at the trailer launch.
In The Sabarmati Report, Vikrant’s character delves into the events surrounding the deadly train fire that occurred on February 27, 2002, in Godhra, Gujarat. The film, which also stars Raashii Khanna and Riddhi Dogra in pivotal roles, will hit theatres on November 15.
Vikrant’s personal reflections and his commitment to telling important, fact-based stories reinforce the actor’s dedication to his craft. As the nation awaits the release of The Sabarmati Report, his candid views on family, faith, and art provide a timely reminder of India’s pluralistic ethos.
