Women Voter Turnout in Mira Bhayandar Assembly Elections 2024 at 52.01%, Nearly on Par with Men

Mira Bhayandar, November 22: The Mira Bhayandar Assembly constituency (145) recorded a voter turnout of 51.75% across 503 polling stations by the close of the polls at 6 pm on Wednesday. Of the total 5,10,862 registered voters, 2,64,354 cast their ballots, with women voters accounting for 52.01% of the female electorate (2,43,072), amounting to 1,26,426 votes. This was just 0.5% behind the 51.51% turnout among male voters, who numbered 2,67,785, with 1,37,928 participating in the election.

Interestingly, none of the five transgender voters in the constituency cast their vote.

This year’s contest is marked by a fierce triangular battle between Muzaffar Hussain from Maha Vikas Aghadi, Narendra Mehta from the Maha Yuti (BJP), and independent candidate Geeta Jain, the sitting MLA, who was denied a BJP ticket. Political analysts suggest this race could mirror the 2019 election results, but with a twist. Geeta Jain's candidacy has significantly impacted BJP's prospects, potentially benefitting the MVA candidate, especially in the Muslim-majority areas. The contest is expected to be tight, with the winner likely needing to secure over 95,000 votes to claim victory.

The vote counting will take place at Pramod Mahajan Community Hall in Bhayandar on November 23.
