Bareilly, Nov 25: Tragedy struck in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district as three men lost their lives when their car, guided by Google Maps, drove off an under-construction flyover and plunged into the shallow Ramganga River from a height of 50 feet.
The victims, travelling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding, were navigating with Google Maps when they unknowingly ventured onto the incomplete flyover. Their car, a Wagon R taxi, was discovered on Sunday morning by locals who immediately alerted the authorities.
Police recovered the bodies of Amit, Vivek, and an unidentified third victim from the wreckage. Post-mortem examinations are underway, with investigations focusing on the incident's exact sequence.
Family members of the deceased blamed local authorities for negligence, citing the absence of barricades or warning signs at the flyover. They demanded accountability and called for legal action against the construction department.
This tragic incident highlights the risks of relying solely on GPS navigation and the critical need for proper safety measures at construction sites.
