5-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Water Tank in Malad's Malwani

Navjivan Society,Malwani, Malad West:  A tragic incident unfolded in Malad West's Malwani area when a five-year-old boy, Abdul Rehman Shaikh, drowned in an uncovered water tank on the terrace of Navjivan Society on Monday evening.

Police reported that Abdul had been playing with a neighbor’s child before going missing. His mother, unable to find him, began searching with help from neighbors. A teenage neighbor discovered Abdul submerged in the tank. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but declared dead on arrival.

The family alleged negligence, claiming they had warned the neighbor, Laiek Siddique, about the dangers of the uncovered tank. “If the lid had been securely closed, this accident could have been avoided,” said Abdul’s grandfather.

Siddique expressed shock over the tragedy, stating, “Rehman and his family are like my own.” He noted the lid was not locked but expressed uncertainty about how the boy accessed the tank.

Police have registered an accidental death report, and further investigations are underway.
