75-Year-Old Woman Escapes Unhurt as Tree Falls on Mahim House

Mumbai, India : A 75-year-old woman had a miraculous escape when a tree branch crashed through the window of her first-floor flat in Mahim during road repair work on Manmala Tank Road (between Mahim and Matunga) on Friday afternoon.

Nila Parekh, a resident of S L Building, was performing a puja when the incident occurred. “There was a loud noise, and suddenly my window glass shattered. It was a shock for me. I usually sit in that room,” she said, adding that the window grill was also damaged. The contractor has assured her that repairs will be made.

G North Ward Assistant Commissioner Ajitkumar Ambi stated that the BMC team is on-site and has directed the road department to issue a show cause notice to the contractor. He also recommended that manual methods be used in future tree removals to avoid such incidents.
