Mumbai Jail Ready for 26/11 Conspirator Tahawwur Rana's Extradition

Mumbai, India: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that Mumbai jail is prepared to house 26/11 terror accused Tahawwur Rana, who is set to be extradited from the United States. Following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, the extradition of Rana has been approved.
Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, is currently detained in the US and is known to be associated with David Headley, one of the key conspirators behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Mumbai police have assured that security arrangements are in place, with Fadnavis stating, “Kasab was kept in Mumbai prison, so there shouldn’t be any issue when it comes to Tahawwur Rana.”
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to take custody of Rana once he arrives in India. Meanwhile, Maharashtra is strengthening its forensic infrastructure with the deployment of 27 mobile forensic vans and plans to set up cubicles in jails for online witness testimonies, reducing prisoner transport to courts.
