BMC Launches Online Cremation and Burial Booking Platform to Ease Citizens’ Burden During Grief

Mumbai: In a significant move towards the modernization of civic services and easing the stress during times of bereavement, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a new online platform for cremation and burial bookings. Known as the Crematorium Management System, the platform went live on Saturday, July 19, and allows citizens to book slots at BMC-run crematoriums and cemeteries.
The service is accessible through the ‘Apply’ section of BMC’s official website, and users can visit https://portal.mcgm.gov.in to make bookings.
BMC has urged citizens, especially during emergency situations, to use this new system to avoid delays and ensure smooth operations at municipal crematoriums and burial grounds.
The primary aim of the Crematorium Management System is to reduce confusion, waiting times, and miscommunication during emotionally challenging times. By enhancing transparency and coordination between the public and crematorium staff, BMC hopes to significantly improve the overall efficiency of end-of-life services in Mumbai.
Officials believe this digital initiative will be a helpful step in streamlining sensitive processes and making them more accessible and dignified for grieving families.
