Aaditya Thackeray Slams Maharashtra Govt Over Dharavi Redevelopment, Alleges Favoritism Towards Adani

Mumbai, India: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has accused the Maharashtra government of favoring the Adani Group in the Dharavi redevelopment project, claiming it would displace 1.5 lakh families and negatively impact Mumbai’s economy. Speaking at a party event, he also criticized the government for shifting major projects from Mumbai to Gujarat and Delhi, weakening the city's financial status.
Thackeray alleged that vast land tracts in Mumbai were being transferred to corporate entities under the "guise" of redevelopment and called for incentives similar to Gujarat’s GIFT City to protect Mumbai’s economic standing. He further raised concerns over the decline of BEST bus services, calling it a strategy to distract citizens from land grabs.
Despite opposition, the Supreme Court recently refused to stay the Dharavi redevelopment project, seeking responses from the Maharashtra government and Adani Properties Pvt Ltd on the matter. Thackeray vowed to fight for Mumbai’s interests, stating, “We will not let the city lose its importance.”
