Gas Pipeline Damaged in Andheri East Road Work, Triggers Fire

Mumbai, India: A gas pipeline leak caused by unauthorized road work in Andheri East led to a fire that injured three people and damaged vehicles. The incident occurred at 12:35 AM on Sunday near Sher-e-Punjab Colony when a JCB operator hit an MGL gas pipeline, causing a Level 1 fire.

Two-wheeler riders Arvindkumar Kathial (21) and Aman Saroj (22) suffered 30-50% burns, while auto-rickshaw driver Suresh Kailas Gupta (52) sustained 20% burns. The MIDC police have filed an FIR against the JCB operator and road contractor for negligence under Sections 125, 125(a), 125(b), and 324(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

MGL confirmed that the fire was caused by "unauthorized and uncontrolled" digging. The gas supply to multiple areas, including Sher-E-Punjab, Takshila Colony, Model Town, Poonam Nagar, and Durga Nagar, was temporarily stopped and restored by Sunday afternoon. Authorities have assured strict action against the responsible parties.
