Navi Mumbai Tightens Grip on Illegal Immigrants: 653 Deported, Drugs Worth ₹12 Crore Seized

Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai police have deported 653 illegal immigrants, including 14 Bangladeshi nationals and 639 individuals from various African countries, in an intensified drive against unauthorized residency. To prevent re-entry, the department has begun collecting deportees’ biometrics at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
DCP Amit Kale emphasized the importance of biometrics, ensuring deported individuals cannot return via legitimate means. Since last month, eight such cases were referred for biometric processing, with five verified, said ACP Ajay Landge.
Stringent action continues against visa overstays and illegal activities. Recently, the Anti-Narcotics Cell and Economic Offences Wing seized drugs worth ₹12 crore in a joint operation, arresting 16 African nationals. Notices were also issued to 73 individuals with expired visas.
Authorities are cracking down on landlords renting to foreigners without police notification, particularly in slum areas of Taloja, Kharghar, Ulwe, Vashi, and Koparkhairane. In some cases, locals reported incidents of intermarriages among foreign nationals to exploit legal loopholes.
Residents have been urged to report illegal immigrants to help Navi Mumbai police in their mission to make the city drug-free.
