BJP Leader Rahul Narwekar Elected Unopposed as Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker

Mumbai -BJP leader Rahul Narwekar was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday. The 47-year-old MLA from Colaba, who has previously served as Speaker under the Eknath Shinde government, has made a significant mark in Maharashtra politics.
A lawyer by profession, Narwekar first became an MLA in 2019 and was re-elected this time with a resounding victory, defeating Congress candidate Heera Nawaji Devasi by over 48,500 votes.
Narwekar’s political journey has seen him associated with multiple parties. He began his career with Shiv Sena, where he served as the spokesperson for the party’s youth wing. However, after 15 years with Shiv Sena, Narwekar left the party in 2014 after being denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections. He then joined the NCP and contested the Maval Lok Sabha seat, but faced defeat. Subsequently, he joined the BJP, where he has risen to prominence.
Coming from a political family, Narwekar’s father, Suresh Narwekar, was a councillor, and his father-in-law, Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar, is a legislator from the NCP and the chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
Rahul Narwekar's leadership marks a new chapter in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, reinforcing his influence in the state’s political landscape.
