Mumbai Airport Seizes 5kg of Weed; Woman Arrested for Smuggling

Mumbai: A 37-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu was arrested by the Customs authorities at Mumbai International Airport on Monday for allegedly smuggling 5kg of hydroponic weed, valued at Rs 5.5 crore. The woman, identified as Sabina Yasin from Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu, had arrived at the airport from Bangkok.
Officials from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) conducted a thorough inspection of her baggage, where they discovered six packets containing a greenish substance, suspected to be hydroponic weed. A field test confirmed that the substance was indeed a narcotic.
Yasin was taken into custody and presented before the local court, where she was remanded to judicial custody. Her lawyer, Prabhakar Tripathi, claimed that Yasin was an unwitting carrier. According to Tripathi, someone had handed over her bag, telling her that it contained chocolates and toys. However, upon inspection, it was revealed that the parcel contained illegal drugs.
The Customs authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover further details about the smuggling operation.
