Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Several Feared Dead, HM Amit Shah Reviews Situation

Ahmedabad, June 12: An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with 242 passengers on board crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The London-bound flight took off at 1:38 PM and crashed within two minutes.

According to initial reports, the pilot gave a "Mayday" emergency call at 1:39 PM. Moments later, the aircraft collided with a building, followed by a massive explosion and thick black smoke in the area. The exact cause of the crash is still unknown.

Emergency services reached the spot swiftly, and the injured are being taken to nearby hospitals. At least seven fire tenders are involved in dousing the fire. Several casualties are feared, but the official death toll is yet to be confirmed.

Some unconfirmed reports suggest that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani may have been on board, though no official statement has been issued.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to review the situation and assured all possible central assistance. The Civil Aviation Ministry and Air India have initiated an investigation, and the crash site has been sealed.

This tragic incident adds to India’s aviation disasters, and a high-level probe is expected soon.
