Western Railway Extends Full Support to Relief Efforts After Ahmedabad Plane Crash

Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025 : In the aftermath of the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, the Western Railway has stepped in to provide critical support for ongoing rescue and relief efforts.

The Disaster Management Team of Western Railway (WR) has been deployed at the crash site to assist local authorities in managing the crisis. Working in close coordination with the Gujarat State Government and emergency responders, the WR team is actively involved in providing logistical and on-ground aid.

“Our Disaster Management Team is fully mobilized and is working round the clock to support rescue operations, in close coordination with state agencies,” said a senior WR official.

Alongside the disaster response team, WR Medical personnel and Railway Protection Force (RPF) units have also been deployed to assist in first aid, evacuation, and crowd control at and around the crash site.

In view of the developing situation and increased travel demand, Western Railway has announced plans to operate additional trains from Ahmedabad to key destinations. As of now, one special train to Mumbai and another to Delhi are being planned to help stranded travelers and relatives of passengers affected by the incident.

“.Based on passenger movement and demand, we are preparing to run special trains to ease travel for those impacted by the tragedy,” the WR spokesperson added.

This coordinated effort highlights the vital role of Indian Railways during national emergencies, not only in logistics and transportation but also in humanitarian assistance.

The tragic crash of the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people on board, has sent shockwaves across the nation. While investigations into the cause are underway, the focus remains on rescue efforts, medical care for survivors, and support for affected families.
