Anoushka Kale, British-Indian Student, Elected President of Cambridge Union Society

Anoushka Kale, a 20-year-old British Indian student, has been elected president of the historic Cambridge Union Society for the Easter 2025 term. A student of English Literature at Sidney Sussex College, Kale won uncontested with 126 votes.
Kale, currently serving as the Debate Officer, campaigned on expanding diversity and strengthening ties with cultural societies like the India Society. She is committed to continuing the tradition of hosting international speakers and global debates.
As one of the few South Asian women to lead the Union, Kale expressed her gratitude for the support and outlined her vision of promoting inclusivity, reducing access costs for events, and fostering collaborations with cultural groups.
The Cambridge Union has a legacy of hosting influential figures, including US Presidents, UK Prime Ministers, and global icons like Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates. Kale follows in the footsteps of past leaders like economist John Maynard Keynes and Cobra Beer founder Karan Bilimoria.
