Bengaluru: 20-Year-Old Woman Dies After Falling from 13th Floor While Recording Instagram Reel

Bengaluru, June 26: In a tragic incident that has shocked the city, a 20-year-old woman named Nandini died after falling from the 13th floor of an under-construction building in South Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara on Tuesday night. According to police sources, the woman lost her balance and fell into the lift shaft while allegedly attempting to record a "sad reel" for social media.

Nandini, who worked as a sales executive at a hypermarket, had gone to the location with three friends — two men and one woman — for a late-night gathering involving alcohol, police said. The building, which is currently under construction, had no safety barriers or proper lighting, making the area especially dangerous at night.

Following the incident, all three friends reportedly fled the spot in panic. However, CCTV footage from the premises helped the police identify and trace one of the friends, a woman, who later revealed details about the night.

According to her statement, there was a disagreement between the friends related to a relationship issue, following which Nandini went to the terrace alone. There, she began recording a sad-themed video reel. During this, she accidentally slipped and fell into the open lift shaft, leading to her untimely death.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Fatima confirmed the incident:"Yes, they were partying in the building. They later went to the terrace to record reels, and she slipped and fell to her death. As of now, we are unaware if a relationship issue led to this. Everything is under investigation. A case has been registered under the Unnatural Death Report (UDR)."

Police are continuing their probe into the matter, including verifying the involvement of the friends, checking for substance use, and confirming the exact sequence of events.

This incident once again raises concerns about unauthorised access to under-construction buildings and the growing risk-taking behaviour linked to social media trends. Authorities may also investigate whether the building owners had adequate security measures in place to prevent such access.
