Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 4-year-old girl was rescued by the Badagada police in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, after being sold by her parents for ₹ 40,000. The accused parents, hailing from Bihar and working as daily laborers in the Badagada area, claimed financial distress drove them to this decision.
The child was sold to a childless couple residing in the Pipili area. Acting on a tip-off from a local resident, Sarthak Mahadik, the police swiftly rescued the girl and detained six individuals, including the parents and intermediaries who facilitated the transaction.
Badagada Police Station IIC, Trupti Ranjan Nayak, confirmed the arrests and stated, “The parents have confessed to the crime and implicated two intermediaries. The investigation is ongoing to uncover further details.”
This shocking case highlights the vulnerabilities of impoverished families and the need for robust child protection mechanisms. The rescued child is now safe, and authorities are ensuring her welfare as the investigation continues.
