BMC to Launch New Seafood Plaza at Khar Danda Koliwada; Public Feedback Invited Until December 16

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is gearing up to open its third seafood plaza at Khar Danda Koliwada in Khar West, designed to empower local fisherwomen and highlight traditional Koli cuisine. The plaza will prioritize stall allocations to women from local Women Self-Help Groups (WSHG), encouraging community participation.
Strategically located behind the Sherely Village Bus Stop on Carter Road, the plaza will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, following a "food on wheels" concept to promote local tourism and cuisine. This initiative comes after the mixed outcomes of the seafood plazas at Mahim and Worli Koliwadas.
In light of operational hurdles at Mahim Koliwada, including delays caused by internal conflicts and fishing hiatuses, the BMC has adopted a cautious approach for Khar Danda. Residents have been invited to submit suggestions and objections by December 16 to ensure the project’s smooth rollout.
The Khar Danda plaza aims to provide a sustainable platform for fisherwomen to showcase their culinary traditions, fostering economic empowerment while preserving the cultural heritage of the Koli community.
