Brave Mumbra Mother Turns Detective, Uncovers Son's Tragic Fate and a Double Murder

Mumbra, Maharashtra:  In a heart-wrenching yet courageous quest, Farida Khatun, a 38-year-old single mother and a nurse at Mumbai's J J Hospital, turned detective to locate her missing son and uncovered a gruesome double murder in Mumbra, Maharashtra.

The ordeal began on April 17, 2015, when her 17-year-old son, Sohail Qureshi, stepped out of their home in Amrut Nagar, Mumbra, promising to return in 10 minutes. When he didn’t, Khatun approached the local police, only to be dismissed with casual remarks suggesting he might have gone to Ajmer Dargah.

Refusing to accept this, Khatun took matters into her own hands. Over months, she tirelessly searched prisons, observation homes, morgues, and spoke with friends and relatives. Balancing her hospital job and another son’s surgeries, she continued her relentless investigation.

Her breakthrough came in mid-September, when she discovered that Sohail's friend, Shabbir, had also gone missing the same day. Teaming up with Shabbir's mother, Haseena, and armed with leads pointing to mutual acquaintances, Khatun traced the involvement of two suspects, Deepak Valmiki (alias Sam) and Mohammad Chaudhari (alias Babu).

With their efforts and details provided, the Thane Crime Branch took up the case. Tragically, it was revealed that Sohail and Shabbir were murdered. Valmiki and Chaudhari admitted to killing Shabbir over personal animosities and suspicion of Sohail's involvement in revealing sensitive information.

In November 2015, the accused led police to a Turbhe ground, where the boys’ bodies were buried, ending Khatun's painful journey but highlighting her unwavering determination and bravery.

This case serves as both an inspiration and a grim reminder of the lengths a mother will go for justice, despite systemic hurdles and heartache.
