Caught in the Black Magic Trap: Mumbai Man Duped of Rs 50 Lakh by Fraudsters

Kandivli East, Mumbai : A 35-year-old grocery shop owner from Kandivli East fell victim to a devious black magic scam, losing Rs 50 lakh after being promised quick wealth. The incident unfolded when the victim was approached by a customer who introduced the idea of using black magic to double his money.

Despite initial skepticism, the grocery store owner was convinced after a demonstration in Goregaon in October, where a group of fraudsters performed a "Puja" and presented a staged money-doubling trick. Tempted by the promise of quick riches, the complainant borrowed Rs 20 lakh from friends and family, adding it to his Rs 30 lakh savings, and arranged to meet the group again in Kandivli.

During the ritual, the accused, led by a "Baba," tricked the victim into consuming prasad laced with intoxicants, causing him to lose consciousness. Seizing the opportunity, the scammers fled with the entire Rs 50 lakh. The victim regained consciousness in a hospital and realized he had been duped, prompting him to report the matter to Samta Nagar Police.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to apprehend the culprits.
