Dark Clouds Blanket Mumbai: IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall Across City and Suburbs

Mumbai, May 28: Mumbai woke up to dark, overcast skies on Tuesday, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert for heavy to moderate rainfall across the city and its surrounding areas. Visuals from suburbs such as Dombivli, Mulund, and Navi Mumbai captured thick cloud cover, light thunderstorms, and intermittent rain showers, marking a prelude to the anticipated monsoon spell.
According to the IMD, the city is expected to witness sustained rainfall throughout the day, with the possibility of isolated heavy showers in some pockets. As of 3 PM, Mumbai recorded a temperature of 29°C with humidity levels hovering around 76%, and wind speeds reaching 16 km/h. The day's forecast includes cloudy skies, intense rain spells in certain areas, and occasional gusty winds.
High tides are also anticipated, raising concerns over potential waterlogging in low-lying regions. Residents are advised to remain cautious, especially during peak hours, and avoid waterlogged zones wherever possible.
The IMD further noted that rainfall activity is likely to continue through the week, with temperatures ranging between 23°C and 32°C. From May 27 to June 2, light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected across the Konkan coast, including Mumbai, Goa, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra, with chances of isolated heavy rainfall.
The monsoon-like conditions are providing some relief from the recent heat, but authorities urge Mumbaikars to stay informed through official weather updates and follow safety advisories during intense downpours.
