Drug Inspector Caught in Drug Smuggling, Arrested: Punjab Police Seizes Cash Worth ₹1.5 Crore

Chandigarh:The Punjab Police's Anti-Narcotics Force has arrested a drug inspector for his involvement in drug smuggling activities in collaboration with smugglers in Mohali. Cash worth ₹1.5 crore was seized from his locations. Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav announced this via a tweet on Friday morning.
The accused drug inspector was found to be illegally collaborating with chemists, medical store owners, and some private companies to engage in the illicit drug trade. The drug inspector, Shishan Mittal, was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Mohali. According to the DGP, the accused had direct contacts with gangsters imprisoned in jails, assisting their drug network while operating outside. He was involved in aiding drug trafficking operations linked to illegal medicines and medical stores.
During the investigation, 24 bank accounts belonging to the accused were identified, holding ₹7.09 crore. All these accounts have been frozen. Additionally, two bank lockers were seized. The ANTF also recovered ₹1.49 crore in cash, 260 grams of gold, and foreign currency from him.
The probe revealed that the accused had amassed substantial illegal assets, including ₹2.40 crore worth of real estate in Zirakpur and Dabwali. Police teams are now working to identify his other associates. Shishan Mittal had been evading arrest for about a month, during which a special operation was conducted by the police. During this operation, raids were carried out in various locations including Bathinda, Mohali, Gidderbaha, Zirakpur, and Fatehabad.
