ED Officer Injured During Raid in Delhi’s Bijwasan in Cyber Fraud Probe

Delhi: An officer of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was injured during a raid in Delhi’s Bijwasan area on Thursday while investigating a cyber fraud case. The injured officer, identified as an additional director, sustained minor injuries but continued with the operation after receiving first aid, officials confirmed.

The raid targeted a farmhouse belonging to Ashok Sharma, a chartered accountant, in connection with the ED’s probe into a large-scale cybercrime operation. The cyber fraud network involved various scams, including phishing, QR code fraud, and part-time job scams. The ED’s High-Intensity Unit (HIU) was investigating the laundering of illicit funds through multiple fraudulent activities.

According to the ED, the team was attacked by Sharma and his family members, with five people present at the scene. One suspect fled during the altercation, and an FIR has been filed. Visuals from the scene showed broken furniture in the house. The local police are now involved, and a manhunt has been launched for the suspects.

The raids, conducted with the help of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND), uncovered evidence of funds being funneled through 15,000 mule accounts, with illicit funds later used to purchase cryptocurrency.

The ED has confirmed that several chartered accountants involved in the scam are being investigated as part of a wider crackdown on cybercrime networks operating across India.
