Eight Workers Trapped in SLBC Tunnel Collapse, Rescue Operations Underway

Nagarkurnool, Telangana: A three-meter section of the roof at the 14 km mark of the under-construction SLBC tunnel near Domalapenta collapsed on Saturday, trapping eight workers. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is actively conducting rescue operations, but the chances of survival are uncertain due to the heavy accumulation of debris inside the tunnel.
The incident occurred just days after construction resumed following a hiatus. While some workers managed to escape, eight remain trapped. NDRF teams are struggling to reach the trapped workers as water has accumulated in parts of the tunnel, and debris blocks access to the collapsed section.
The trapped workers have been identified as Manoj Kumar, Sri Niwas (Uttar Pradesh), Sunny Singh (J&K), Gurpreet Singh (Punjab), and Sandeep Sahu, Jegta Xess, Santosh Sahu, Anuj Sahu (Jharkhand). Among the eight, two are engineers, two operators, and four laborers.
Despite ongoing efforts, the operation is facing challenges, with mud and debris reaching up to the knees. The Indian Army’s Engineer Task Force has also joined the rescue mission to expedite efforts.
The workers, who have been trapped for nearly 48 hours, are being closely monitored by local authorities.
