Fadnavis Announces 12-Year Rental Housing for Ineligible Dharavi Tenants

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that tenants deemed ineligible under the Dharavi redevelopment project will receive rental housing for 12 years, after which ownership will be transferred to them.

Speaking in the Assembly on Tuesday, Fadnavis reaffirmed the state government's commitment to ensuring housing for all. He dismissed concerns raised by the Opposition about the impact of the redevelopment, stating that residents will not be displaced unfairly.

As per the project guidelines:

  • Slum occupants before 2001 will receive free housing.

  • Tenants residing between 2001 and 2011 can purchase houses at construction cost.

  • Those who settled after 2011 will be given rental housing for 12 years, post which ownership will be transferred under set norms.

The Dharavi redevelopment project, covering over 100 million sq ft, is expected to cost over ₹2 lakh crore and will accommodate approximately 1.25 lakh residential and commercial units.
