Gokhale Bridge-Gold Spot Stretch Closed to Motorists Until May 15: Andheri Braces for Heavy Traffic

Andheri, Mumbai: Motorists in Andheri will face major traffic changes from April 1 to May 15, as the stretch between Gokhale Bridge and Gold Spot Junction has been closed for vehicular movement due to ongoing work on the second phase of the Gokhale Bridge project. This phase involves connecting the Teli Galli bridge with Gokhale bridge, prompting the traffic department to issue a 'no entry' notice for the affected route.

To ease the disruption, alternative routes have been suggested:

  • Vehicles heading from Gold Spot Junction to Andheri West should use the east-bound arm of Teli Galli bridge.

  • Vehicles coming from Gokhale bridge towards Gold Spot Junction are advised to use the slip road.

Visuals from the site show civic authorities working on smoothing out a depression on the west-bound arm of the bridge, which has been dug up as part of the upgrade.

However, residents and local associations have raised concerns over increased traffic congestion. Dhaval Shah of the Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizen’s Association (LOCA) called for quicker execution of the project to reduce public inconvenience. Locals have also expressed frustration on social media, citing the burden of two-way traffic on a single operational arm of the bridge.

The full reopening of Gokhale Bridge is expected by May, according to authorities.
