Honeymoon Turns Tragic: Woman Offers ₹20 Lakh to Kill Husband in Meghalaya, Arrested After Fleeing

Indore/New Delhi, June 11:In a shocking case that has gripped the nation, a recently married woman, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon trip to Meghalaya. The 28-year-old woman reportedly offered ₹20 lakh for the murder, with ₹15,000 paid in advance to the accused killers.

The couple, who had tied the knot on May 11 in Indore, had travelled to Meghalaya on May 20 for their honeymoon. However, Raja was reported missing on May 24 after the couple’s rented scooter was found abandoned. His decomposed body was recovered from a gorge in East Khasi Hills on June 2.

Investigations revealed a sinister plot involving Sonam’s alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three accomplices — Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Anand Kurmi. Initially, Sonam had allegedly offered ₹4 lakh for the killing, later raising the amount to ₹20 lakh. Police reports state that she paid ₹15,000 in cash as an advance before the act was carried out.

The killers are said to be friends of Kushwaha, and all of them reportedly met the couple in Bengaluru before flying to Meghalaya. Police believe the murder was premeditated, and Sonam played a central role in facilitating the plan.

After the body was discovered and Sonam went missing, the police launched a manhunt. She was finally traced to a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9. A staff member said she was crying and requested to call her brother. Acting on the information, police apprehended her, and she later surrendered.

Sonam is currently in a three-day transit remand with the Meghalaya Police. Her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha has been arrested in Madhya Pradesh, while the three hired attackers are also in police custody.

Raja’s family, devastated by the turn of events, has demanded the strictest punishment for all involved. “We are in shock. Raj was excited about starting his new life. We even saw Kushwaha in our house after Raja's body arrived — we had no idea he was involved,” said a grieving family member.

The case has sent shockwaves across the country, shedding light on a disturbing plot of betrayal, greed, and murder, wrapped in the guise of a honeymoon.
