Infosys Trainees Raise Layoff Concerns with PMO; Labour Ministry Steps In

Bengaluru,India: A growing labour dispute has emerged at Infosys, with over 100 trainees filing complaints with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) against alleged forceful layoffs. The issue began at Infosys’ Mysuru campus, where around 700 trainees were terminated for failing internal assessments.
Following the complaints, the Ministry of Labour & Employment issued a second notice to the Karnataka Labour Commissioner, urging an investigation into the mass terminations. The ministry highlighted concerns over unfair assessments and called for intervention to reinstate affected employees and prevent similar dismissals.
Infosys defended its decision, stating that performance evaluations are a standard part of its globally recognized training program. The company clarified that only 350 employees resigned due to performance issues and that trainees were well-informed about the evaluation process, including negative marking across three attempts. Infosys also claimed that 98% of eligible trainees received relieving letters, severance pay, and outplacement services.
With the labour ministry stepping in, all eyes are on the Karnataka government’s response to this escalating dispute.
