IPL 2025 Match 64: Lucknow Super Giants Outclass Gujarat Titans by 33 Runs in High-Scoring Showdown

Ahmedabad, May 22: In a pulsating encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Gujarat Titans (GT) by 33 runs in Match 64 of the IPL 2025 season. Although already out of playoff contention, LSG ended their campaign on a high note, while GT, who have already secured a playoff berth, faced a reality check ahead of the knockout rounds.
Batting first after winning the toss, LSG put up an imposing 235/2 on the board in their 20 overs. Leading the charge was Mitchell Marsh, who played a scintillating knock of 117 runs off just 64 balls, studded with 10 fours and 8 sixes. His innings was a mix of power and precision that left the GT bowlers scrambling for answers.
West Indies' Nicholas Pooran gave Marsh ample support with a fiery 56 off 27 balls, including 4 fours and 5 sixes, keeping the run-rate well above 11 throughout the innings. The duo's fireworks ensured LSG finished with one of the highest team totals of the season.
For GT, Sai Kishore was the only bowler to make an impact, returning figures of 1/34 in 3 overs.
Chasing a daunting 236, Gujarat Titans lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to keep up with the steep asking rate. However, Shahrukh Khan kept their hopes alive with an explosive 57 off 29 balls, smashing 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. He was ably assisted by Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 38 off 22 balls, but the lack of partnerships hurt GT’s chances.
Despite the late resistance, GT could only muster 202/9 in their 20 overs.
LSG pacer Will O’Rourke played a crucial role in derailing GT’s chase, picking up 3 wickets for 27 runs in his full quota of 4 overs. His disciplined and accurate bowling earned him the player of the match as he claimed key scalps at vital junctures.
While the win does little for LSG in terms of tournament progression, it reflects their potential and depth. Meanwhile, GT will need to regroup and fine-tune their strategies heading into the playoffs, particularly their bowling attack and middle-order consistency.
