Jalgaon Train Tragedy: 12 Lives Lost as Passengers Jump onto Tracks

Jalgaon, Maharashtra: A devastating train accident claimed the lives of 12 passengers near Paranda railway station, over 400 km from Mumbai, on Wednesday at 4:19 PM. The tragedy occurred when passengers aboard the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express, fearing a fire due to sparks from its wheels, jumped onto the tracks, only to be hit by the oncoming Bengaluru Express.

The incident unfolded as smoke, reportedly caused by either a “hot axle” or “brake-binding,” emanated from one of the Pushpak Express coaches. Panicked passengers activated the emergency chain, causing the train to halt abruptly. In their haste to escape, several jumped onto adjacent tracks, unaware of the approaching Bengaluru Express traveling in the opposite direction.

Central Railway Chief Spokesperson Swapnil Nila confirmed, “Some passengers of the Pushpak Express stepped down and were hit by the oncoming Karnataka Express.”

Officials Respond Swiftly The district administration and railway officials sprang into action. Maharashtra Guardian Minister Gulabrao Patil and Minister Girish Mahajan, along with senior officials, reached the site. Emergency equipment, ambulances, and nearby hospitals were mobilized to treat the injured.

Condolences from Leaders Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep grief, describing the incident as "extremely unfortunate and distressing." Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended condolences and ensured adequate treatment for the injured.

As investigations continue, railway authorities are focusing on safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
