Junior Doctors from RG Kar Join Hunger Strike in Dharmatala for the First Time

Kolkata : The junior doctors have initiated a hunger strike in Dharmatala, Kolkata, in connection with the RG Kar incident. For the first two days, no representatives from RG Kar participated, raising questions about their absence. However, on Sunday night, Aniket Mahto, one of the leaders among the junior doctors from RG Kar Hospital, joined the protest.
When six junior doctors began the hunger strike on Saturday night, concerns arose about why no doctor from RG Kar Hospital—central to the protest—was involved.
With Aniket Mahto's participation on Sunday night, the hunger strike, which started on Saturday, now has a total of seven doctors involved, all protesting for their ten demands.
When the six doctors launched the hunger strike on Saturday night, none of them were from RG Kar Hospital, leading to disputes among the protesters. Questions began to circulate about why no doctors from RG Kar participated when the movement originated from an incident at that very hospital.
However, the junior doctors have firmly rejected these allegations, stating that the decision was made considering the current situation at RG Kar Hospital, and it was a unanimous decision.
Starting from Saturday night, junior doctors from Kolkata Medical College—Anushtup Mukherjee, Snegah Hazra, Tanya Panja—as well as Arnab Mukherjee from SSKM Hospital, Sayantani Ghosh Hazra from KPC Medical College, and Pulastya Acharya from NRS Medical College began their hunger strike.
With Aniket Mahto joining on Sunday night, the movement has gained new momentum, directly linking it to RG Kar Hospital. The protesting doctors assert that the decision was made with full consensus, and discussions are ongoing regarding the next steps of the protest.
