Kerala Businessman Boby Chemmanur in Custody Over Sexual Harassment Claims

Ernakulam, Kerala: Businessman Boby Chemmanur has been taken into custody in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by a woman actor. The actor accused Chemmanur of making sexually charged comments both online and in-person during an event. The police in Kochi swiftly responded, taking him into custody just a day after the actor filed the complaint on January 7.

Chemmanur is facing serious charges, including Section 75(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses sexually explicit remarks, and Section 67 of the IT Act for publishing or transmitting obscene material electronically. A special investigation team, led by Ernakulam Central police inspector, arrested him from another district on January 8 and is bringing him to the Central police station for formal processing.

This incident follows a string of complaints by the actor, with one involving 30 individuals who allegedly posted lewd comments on her social media posts. The police have arrested one individual, Shaji, in relation to that case, with further investigations continuing.

In a scathing social media post, the actor accused Chemmanur of attempting to stalk and humiliate her after she declined his event invitations. She expressed confidence in the legal system despite Chemmanur’s presumed influence.
