Kiran Rao Opens Up About Her Relationship with Aamir Khan's Family After Divorce

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao separated in 2021 after being in a relationship for 16 years following their marriage in 2005. Now, Kiran Rao has openly discussed her divorce, post-relationship friendship, mutual respect, and her relationship with Aamir's family.
"We separated very easily because we had reached a point where we were ready for divorce. We tried very hard to save our marriage. When we decided to get divorced, it was a well-thought-out decision. We never fought. We had disagreements, but we resolved them within 12 hours. We also had differences with our parents," Kiran Rao said in an interview.
"We knew that even though we were getting divorced, there was still a lot to save in this relationship. We didn't want to end it all. So, we didn't end our relationship suddenly; we took our time and then decided. Kiran also mentioned that they made sure that their decision didn’t emotionally affect their son, Azad."
Kiran explained that even after the divorce, love and respect remained between them. "We don't want to live together, but that doesn't mean we don't like each other or don't love each other. In any marriage, there are things about your partner that you don't like. There are things that annoy you, things that lead to arguments, but you married this person, and there are things you like about them too," Kiran added.
"Aamir is my friend; he is, in many ways, my mentor. He is my support system, and whenever I need him, he is always there for me. But there are also days when he used to annoy me. Ultimately, what matters is what you want to hold on to. Do you want to hold on to the negatives and the bad things, or do you want to hold on to the things that made your relationship last for so many years? Kiran said they focused on the best things in their relationship and let go of the things they didn’t like after the divorce."
Kiran and Aamir's family still live happily together. Kiran said, "His mother is still my mother-in-law, and his children (Junaid and Ira) are my friends and dear to me.
