-IPS Officer's Fate Hangs in Balance as Supplementary Chargesheet Delayed in Extortion Case

Mumbai,India: The Mumbai Police has yet to file a supplementary chargesheet against IPS officer Saurabh Tripathi in the angadia extortion case, which dates back to 2022. Tripathi was initially suspended on March 10, 2022, following multiple complaints alleging his involvement in extorting courier operators in the city.

In November 2022, the Bombay High Court granted Tripathi interim protection from arrest, later making it permanent. Despite concerns about his alleged actions, the government reinstated him on June 28, 2023, more than a year after his suspension. Shortly after, he was appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in the State Intelligence Department.

In September 2024, the court pressed the state for updates on evidence against Tripathi and his brother-in-law, Ashutosh Mishra, questioning the delay in the filing of a supplementary chargesheet. The case remains under scrutiny, with stakeholders awaiting further progress.
